Maldives has recorded a total of 451,554 tourist arrivals so far this year with China as the top tourist market, accounting for over 50,000 arrivals.
According to statistics publicized by the Tourism Ministry on Tuesday, Maldives recorded 214,863 tourist arrivals in January and 214,091 tourist arrivals in February. So far in March, the country has recorded 22,600 tourist arrivals, marking at 4.8 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
As such, as of Monday, the total number of tourist arrivals stands at 451,554.
The highest number of arrivals has been recorded from China, accounting for 59,938 tourists, which makes up for 13.3 percent of the total arrivals. Russia follows in second with 45,072 arrivals, with the UK coming in third with 44,628 arrivals.
Arrivals from other countries:
Fourth: 42,394 arrivals from Italy
Fifth: 28,421 arrivals from Germany
Sixth: 21,335 arrivals from India
Seventh: 18,755 arrivals from France
As per the statistics, tourists spent an average of 7.2 days in the Maldives.
Maldives presently has 61,889 operational beds, with 43,391 from resorts, 13,388 from guesthouses and 2,032 from hotels.
Over two million tourists visited the Maldives last year.
The current administration is undertaking significant efforts to further boost tourist arrivals and increase the number of days tourist spend in the country.
