An appeal has been lodged in High Court regarding the extension of the detention period of Mohamed Shahid, the brother of Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Shahid.
The appeal case, which follows Criminal Court’s ruling to detain Mohamed Shahid for 15 days, has been accepted by High Court. The first hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday at 2:15 pm at High Court.
Shahid was arrested over alleged embezzlement of MVR 24 million from the budget of Disaster Management Centre (DMC) during 2009 and 2010.
The people taken under arrest in relation to this case in addition to Shahid include: former Head of DMC Abdulla Shahid; Ahmed Arif of Ma. Ever Glory; Mohamed Waheed of Dhigali, B. Eydhafushi; and Abdullah Saeed of Feyrumaage, Gdh. Hoadeddhoo.
Criminal Court has given 15 days of detention for all five people.
