24-year-old dies in motorbike crash on Addu’s Hankede Bridge

A young man died on Wednesday after he crashed his motorbike in an accident on the Hankede bridge in Addu City.

A police spokesperson said the accident was reported to the authorities at around 09:49 am.

According to the police, Leevan Abdul Sattar, 24, G. Night Dream, K. Male’, had been speeding on his way from Maradhoo to Hithadhoo when he lost control of the vehicle at the bend of the bridge and crashed into the fence.

The accident is under investigation by the police.

The latest accident comes after an 18-year-old from Addu crashed his motorbike while practicing for a racing tournament last weekend. He is currently on life support.

The Addu Equatorial Hospital has raised concerns regarding an increase in road accidents in the southern city. According to the hospital, 277 accidents took place in Addu last year and 27 took place last month alone.

The Hankede bridge was opened for public transport at the start of this month.
