National Archives of Maldives has signed a cooperation agreement with the National Centre for Archives and Records of Saudi Arabia on archiving and record management.

The agreement was signed on Tuesday, on the sidelines of ‘Archives in the Digital Age’ conference in Saudi Arabia.

Mohamed Amir Ahmed, Director General of the National Archives of Maldives, signed the agreement on behalf of the institution, while Dr. Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al-Tamimi, Director General of the National Centre for Archives and Records of Saudi Arabia, signed on behalf of the institution.

Speaking with Sun regarding the agreement, National Archives of Maldives described the agreement as a symbol of the relationship formed with the National Centre for Archives and Records of Saudi Arabia during Amir’s visit to the nation to attend the ‘Archives in Digital Age’ conference.

National Archives stated that one of the primary goals of the agreement is to archive, index, and preserve records. Additional objectives include archiving and maintaining photos, charts, and audiovisual materials, as well as restoring old and damaged items to usable conditions.

Apart from this, the agreement will also pave way to train individuals in the field, including specialists, and knowledge exchange on the culture, old ways, new ways and technology pertaining to archiving.

Notably, the agreement was signed in the presence of Maldivian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ahmed Sareer and Secretary General of the International Council on Archives Carlos Serrano Vasquez.
