Police wanted to intimidate Shahid

Lawyer representing the family of Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Shahid, Ibrahim Nasir Ahmed has said that the police’s intention when they entered Shahid’s residence was to intimidate his family.

Nasir said at a press conference held at VTV this afternoon, that the police had no reason to enter Shahid’s residence Rabee’ee Manzil to arrest his brother Mohamed Shahid, as Mohamed Shahid lived in Sosun Manzil.

He said that the police had no intention other than to intimidate the residents of Rabee’ee Manzil when they entered the house.

Police have said however that they entered Abdullah Shahid’s residence after taking Mohamed Shahid under arrest, following a request by Mohamed Shahid to meet with his father.

Nasir said however that the family does not believe that the police had any reason to accompany Mohamed Shahid into the house.

“Where would he escape to, from the eighth floor? Police should not be so unprofessional. After he entered the house to meet his parents, they should have waited outside and knocked on the door if he didn’t come out after five or ten minutes,” Nasir said.
