Case against Home Minister dismissed by Civil Court

The Civil Court has dismissed the case against Home Minister Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, filed by Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) Male’ constituency president Mohamed Rasheed, accusing Dr Jameel of influencing the ongoing trial against former President Mohamed Nasheed at Hulhumale’ Court.

A media official of the judiciary told Sun Online that the case was rejected by Civil Court on the grounds that the person who filed it has no relation to the case ongoing at Hulhumale’ Court.

The case against Dr Jameel states that the remarks by Dr Jameel on 29 January could influence the judges in their ruling against Nasheed, and requested the court to rule that the Home Minister cannot make comments that could influence any trial proceeding.
