Detention periods extended for five people arrested for possession of alcohol

Detention periods have been extended for the five people that were arrested for the possession of a large number of alcohol bottles aboard a supply boat anchored in the Vilimale’ North Harbour.

Media Officer of Criminal Court Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Manik said that seven days have been given by the court as the detention period for all five people.

The people taken to court for detention period extensions are of ages 19, 21, 23, 31 and 54.

Police said that responding to an intelligence report and checks conducted at 5:35 yesterday evening, they discovered a large number of alcohol bottles hidden on a boat named “Reboo-14”. They said that 108 bottles were found in the boat’s wheelhouse, which included 96 bottles Smirnoff along with 12 bottles of Jameson. They said that some of the bottles were in their original packaging while others were hidden inside carrying bags.
