Four arrested for attempting to smuggle 12 kilos of hashish oil on yacht

India's Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested four people for attempting to smuggle 12 kilos of hashish oil into the Maldives on a yacht.

According to reports from Indian press, the DRI intercepted the drug shipment from the Tuticorin port on Wednesday in an operation it conducted based on an intel report.

The Times of India identified the four arrested in the case as:

  • Raja alias Jesuraja, 34, and Sudhakar, 33, who transported the drugs to Tuticorin port on a motorcycle;
  • Marimuthu, 30, an employee of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) who is believed to have helped the duo get through security gates with the drugs;
  • And, Kingsly, 56, a crew member of the yacht.

The drugs seized in the operation is estimated to be worth around MVR 21 million.
