The national weather agency has issued a yellow alert for strong winds and rough seas for a large part of northern and central Maldives.
The yellow alert is in effect for the area from Sh. Atoll to V. Atoll from 10:45 am to 02:30 pm on Thursday.
The weather agency warned the area will be affected by torrential rain and thunderstorms with gusts of 40 miles per hour, as well as rough seas.
According to the general weather forecast released by the Meteorological Service for Thursday, scattered rain with few heavy showers and thunderstorms expected across the Maldives.
The agency also forecasts southeast to southerly winds at 8-18 miles per hour, with guests of 40 miles per hour during showers.
Seas are expected to be moderate becoming rough during showers, with waves of 4-7 feet.
The Maldives had experienced torrential rain and thunderstorms earlier this month, as the weather transitioned from Hulhangu Monsoon to Iruvai Monsoon.
The heavy rain experienced in the Maldives this month resulted in flooding in multiple islands, including the capital Male’ City, leaving scores of people temporarily displaced.
