Orange alert for Huvadhoo Atoll warning of flooding

Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) has issued an orange alert to Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

The alert warning of torrential rain and thunderstorms with possible flooding is in effect from 12:50pm to 15:00pm on Thursday.

According to the Met Office's weather forecast for the Maldives over the next 24 hours, the southern atolls are likely to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms, while generally fine weather is expected in all other regions.

Winds are expected from northeast/easterly direction at three to 10 miles per hour in southern atolls. It will gust up to 20 miles per hour during showers. Seas will be moderate in the southern atolls, however, will be mildly rough in other regions. Wave height is estimated at three to six feet.
