Dhiraagu has launched its high-speed fibre broadband service to all residential islands in the Maldives.

The telecom operator made the announcement during a special conference held at Dhiraagu Head Office on Wednesday.

According to Dhiraagu, the company has achieved a significant milestone in both the national and global telecommunication landscape with the completion of its high-speed fibre broadband network. Citing several data, Dhiraagu said only a few developed countries have successfully extended 100 percent fibre coverage to their entire population.

“Broadband service has the potential to significantly accelerate a country's socio-economic development. This is reflected in the inclusion of fibre broadband expansion as a central element in many nations' development plans,” added Dhiraagu.

Likewise, Dhiraagu said its accomplishment marks an important step towards achieving the government’s vision of ‘improving the quality and lowering the cost of internet services provided to different parts of the country’ and becoming a ‘smart nation.’

Speaking at the press conference, Dhiraagu’s CEO, Managing Director Ismail Rasheed said it was an honor for Dhiraagu to become the first company in the Maldives to extend high-speed fibre broadband connectivity to all inhabited islands across the country and thanked all customers across the nation for their support over the years.

He added that the remarkable achievement by Dhiraagu will result in enhancing Maldives’ digital backbone and fueling the growth of digital services across the country, citing high-speed broadband to be an essential tool in providing digital services.

Ismail stated that this milestone represents a significant step in Dhiraagu's commitment to consistently providing high-quality services across the Maldives. In this regard, he said it has helped bring Dhiraagu’s vision of ‘Digital Raajje’ closer to reality, adding the feat would not have been possible without the support of key stakeholders. As such, he expressed his sincere gratitude to the government, atoll councils, island councils, partners, and all Dhiraagu staff who played an active role in completing this extensive project.

Dhiraagu has consistently been a leader in driving the digital transformation of the Maldives, committed to enhancing lives through innovation.
