Burials at Hulhumale’ Cemetery temporarily halted due to floods

Male’ City Council has temporarily halted burials at Hulhumale’ Cemetery.

In a post on X, the Council stated that the groundwater level at the cemetery is currently between eight to nine inches amid an ongoing bad weather spell in Male' area, preventing the digging of graves and the placement of coffins. This is due to the fact the increased groundwater level is causing flooding.

As such, the Council announced that funerals scheduled for today at Hulhumale’ Cemetery will instead be held at Male’ Aasahara Mosque.
