A group of expatriates involved in prostitution have been detained by Maldives Immigration in operations carried out by the authority in collaboration with Maldives Police Service to identify and detain expatriates involved in widescale prostitution in the Maldives.
The seven expatriates detained by Immigration have been identified as four women and three men.
Immigration said they have permanently deported two of the women after conducting further investigation, adding efforts were underway to deport the remaining five individuals.
The current administration undertaking significant efforts to resolve the longstanding issue of illegal migration in the Maldives. In this regard, authorities are collaboratively conducting operations to identify expatriates illegally residing in the Maldives or are involved in criminal activities.
Immigration has deported over 5,000 immigrant offenders since the current administration assumed office.
