Maldives national Defense Force (MNDF) states 30,569 tonnes of water were drained from Male’ roads in efforts spanning 21 hours to drain the flooded roads of the Maldivian capital following nonstop heavy rain on Friday.
Male’ was among the islands impacted by severe floods as Maldives presently experiences a bad weather spell. Majority of Male’ City was flooded until early Saturday morning.
The efforts to drain the floods in both Male’ and the islands were spearheaded by MNDF.
The authority, on Saturday, said most islands at which they undertook efforts to drain floods have been brought back to a state of normalcy as of present. This includes Male’, said MNDF, adding the Maldivian capital has been brought back to a state of normalcy by the efforts to drain floods which spanned 21 hours.
They detailed that 30,569 tonnes of water were drained from Male’ roads through the efforts which commenced at 11:37am on Friday morning and continued until 8:30am on Saturday morning.
According to National Disaster Manager Agency (NDMA), 226 residents from 36 homes in Male’ City that were impacted in the floods were provided temporary shelter and food as damage to their residences rendered them uninhabitable at that time.

Notably, R. Inguraidhoo and Sh. Narudhoo recorded significant damage after swell waves swept in the islands during high tide.
