Orange alert for severe weather conditions downgraded to yellow

The orange alert issued earlier warning of severe weather conditions has been downgraded to yellow.

Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) has issued the yellow alert from Noonu Atoll to Laamu Atoll until 04:00am warning of torrential rain and thunderstorms with gusts of winds up to 40 miles per hour and rough seas. 

As per Met Office, the low-pressure area is presently directly above the Maldives. Subsequently, central Maldives will experience bad weather over the next 24 hours.

The weather is expected to start improving from Sunday onwards.
