The weather in a large part of Maldives will begin to clear on Saturday, says the national weather agency.
A large part of Maldives has been experiencing torrential rain since the start of the New Year holiday.
A spokesperson from the Maldives Meteorological Service said on Thursday that the adverse weather conditions will continue over the next 48 hours, with torrential rain and thunderstorms expected in central Maldives.
But the weather is expected to begin to clear on Saturday.
The weather agency said that a white alert will remain in place for the area from B. Atoll to Addu City to until at least 05:30 pm Thursday.
The agency warned the area will be affected by heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds with gusts of 45 miles per hour, and rough seas.
Torrential rain overnight resulted in extensive flooding in parts of Male’ City. However, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said there were no immediate reports of any flood damage to homes.
Meanwhile, the island of Sh. Narudhoo experienced tidal flooding. However, there were no immediate reports of any damage to property.
