Fifteen days given as detention period for Shahid and four others

The Criminal Court has granted a fifteen-day detention period against former Head of National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) Abdulla Shahid and four others, who have been arrested over corruption allegations involving MVR 24 million during 2009 and 2010, mentioned in an audit report.

The four people taken under arrest are Ahmed Arif, 49, of Ma. Ever Glory; Mohamed Waheed, 53, of Dhigali, B. Eydhafushi; Abdullah Saeed, 49 of Feyrumaage, Gdh. Hoadeddhoo; and Mohamed Shahid, 53, of H. Rebee’ee Manzil.

Shahid’s lawyer said that the Criminal Court ruling regarding Shahid’s detention period will be appealed to High Court. He said that no details were given at today’s trial regarding the allegations against Shahid.

Shahid’s family said that media reports that Shahid was arrested while he was at home are untrue, and that he was arrested while walking on the street.
