Dr. Vitaliy Lyubimov, who was appointed as the CEO of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) a week back, has vowed to publicly expose anyone who attempts to influence the company, as he slammed recent attempts to influence a key appointment to the state-owned enterprise.
In a press statement on Thursday, MIFCO announced that Lyubimov made a key leadership appointment on Sunday, choosing Ahmed Nasir as the new General Manager of the Human Resources Department.
MWSC said that Nasir, with his extensive experience and expertise in human resources management, was deemed the ideal candidate to lead the department during this pivotal time for the company.
The appointment marks the first major personnel decision under Lyubimov’s leadership.
According to MIFCO, Nasir will be conducting a comprehensive assessment of the skills and competencies of all MIFCO personnel, working directly under the guidance of the c, with the aim of optimizing the workforce, ensuring that MIFCO’s human resources are aligned with its strategic goals.
However, Nasir’s appointment was not without controversy.
MWSC said that attempts were made by external political forces to influence the selection process, advocating for the appointment of another candidate – who was ultimately rejected.
In a statement, Lyubimov made it clear that any future political interference or attempts to influence MIFCO's management would not be tolerated.
He vowed to publicly name and disclose the individuals involved in such activities across all available open sources.
He also warned that he would not hesitate to take all necessary measures to prevent any recurrence of these incidents, including contacting higher authorities to demand the removal of those involved in political manipulation.
"Any attempt to exert political pressure on the company’s operations will be met with immediate action," said Lyubimov.
"There will be zero tolerance for such interference, and I will ensure full transparency by sharing the identities of those attempting to influence the company."
MIFCO said that Lyubimov’s firm stance reflects his commitment to maintaining a professional and independent management structure at MIFCO, free from external political pressures.
He also reiterated the competence and responsibility of the current management team, emphasizing their qualifications to drive sustainable development within the fisheries sector.
Lyubimov stressed that his leadership is focused on enhancing trust in MIFCO and fulfilling the company's mission.
According to MIFCO, Lyubimov is currently overseeing a thorough evaluation of MIFCO’s operational processes. Following this analysis, a comprehensive program aimed at the company’s sustainable development will be presented to the relevant government officials, outlining the path forward for MIFCO.
Lyubimov said that the commitment to transparency, independence, and professionalism is central to his vision for MIFCO, as the company continues to strengthen its position in the Maldives’ fisheries sector while safeguarding against political interference.
Lyubimov was appointed as the CEO of MIFCO on December 9 – replacing Ahmed Samah Rasheed – who was dismissed from the post on May 21.
