President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Monday, has appointed Abdul Haseeb Ismail, Hulhumalé Hiyaa, 11-23-05, as a member of the Elections Commission (EC).
Haseeb was appointed to the post in accordance with Article 167(a) of the Constitution, which establishes the Elections Commission, and Article 168(b) of the Constitution, along with Article 4(a) of Law No. 8/2008 (Elections Commission Act).
President Muizzu presented the letter of appointment to Haseeb during a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Monday.
Ahead of the presentation of the appointment letter, Haseeb took the oath of office as a member of EC before the President.
The oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice Dr. Azmiralda Zahir.
Parliament approved the appointment of Haseeb as a member of EC on November 5th, as a replacement for the commission’s former chairperson Fuad Thaufeeq, whose term expired in November.
Prior to his appointment as a member, Haseeb had been serving as an assistant director at the EC.
