The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in collaboration with Transparency Maldives on Monday have commenced the 'Anti Corruption Commission 2024'.
The theme of this two-day conference is 'Advancing Climate and Environmental Projects and Establishing Integrity in Climate Governance Systems'.
While speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the conference, President of ACC Adam Shamil said this year's theme is closely linked to the Maldives' demographics. He said the theme is focused on encouraging the youth shape their future with integrity.
Shamil warned of the bleak prospects for the Maldives if younger generations give into corruption.
He emphasized the importance of fostering a nation loving future generations to instill the virtue of integrity in them.
At the ceremony, the Special Envoy for Climate Change, Ali Shareef affirmed ongoing efforts of the current government in combatting corruption in governance while ensuring transparency in state's expenditure on initiatives related to climate change and environment.
"There are reports on climate financing that we are required to submit in accordance to climate change conventions. Small island nations have leniency in submitting these reprots, but Maldives submitted transparency report without any delays much like larger countries. We wanted to disclose information related to this at the earliest convenience," he commented.
The conference held once in every two years feature keynote speeches, panel discussions and exchange of ideas. Additionally the two-day conference provides the opportunity for discussions regarding challenges to climate combat and their respective solutions.
December 9th of every year is marked as the International Anti-Corruption Day.
