President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu states developmental projects will proceed nationwide starting from January with the new budget and in this trajectory, has affirmed commitment to see the projects to completion in an orderly fashion.

The Parliament passed a projected state budget of MVR 56.6 billion for 2025 on November 27th.

While addressing the residents of AA. Thinadhoo on Sunday morning as part of his ongoing tour of Alifu Alifu and Kaafu Atoll – President Muizzu said projects had remained stalled due to the lack of opportunity within the budget passed for this year.

The statement has been reiterated by President on various occasions. In this regard, he has raised concern over the small budget allocated for projects that makes it impossible to see their implementation.

He affirmed the physical works on development projects pledged by him, whether be it harbors, roads, land reclamation, schools, hospitals or sports-related, will proceed nationwide in the next two years, in an orderly fashion.

“By the will of Almighty, the development projects will be scheduled and implemented in an orderly fashion,” he said.

In this trajectory, he noted that the road development project at Thoddoo will commence next year, adding the expansion of the health centre and the development of additional classrooms are also in the pipeline.

The President has also pledged to establish a USD ATM at Thoddoo.

Many development projects remained stalled this year – something which the current administration attributed to budget constraints. Statistics publicized by Finance Ministry show that expenditure on projects had decreased by approximately a billion while the recurrent expenses skyrocketed.

Notably, the MVR 56.6 billion budget approved for next year has been criticized by the opposition for lack of specifics on how the funds will be spent.

While the government has assured projects will proceed with the new budget, it lacked the details of the projects that will be undertaken.
