Efforts have commenced to change the jurisdiction of K. Gulhifalhu, an island being reclaimed for development in Male’ area, from Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC).
FDC’s Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel confirmed to Sun that efforts were underway to shift the jurisdiction.
Providing further details, Hamdhan said many works were being undertaken in this trajectory which includes evaluation of all operations presently underway at Gulhifalhu, works related to evaluation and review of agreements made with respect to Gulhifalhu to date.
As such, he said he is unable to specify a date when the jurisdiction of Gulhifalhu will officially be handed over FDC following the completion of these procedures. He noted that the highest priority at present has been allocated to efforts to merge FDC and HDC as decided by the cabinet.
“The work [merging] is proceeding as well with documents being exchanged in this trajectory and meetings being held between the two companies to ensure arrangements guaranteeing services provided are not interrupted,” he added.
The cabinet decided to make FDC a subsidiary of HDC on September 1st .
With this change, Housing Minister Dr. Haidar Ali Said HDC will be overseeing all government social housing projects from hereon while HDC will play the most crucial role in developing urban centres as planned by the government.
