PPM to celebrate one year since change of government

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has said that preparations are under way to hold a special function to celebrate the handover of the government to the people of the Maldives on 7 February 2012, due to the resignation of former President Mohamed Nasheed.

PPM spokesperson and Galolhu-South MP Ahmed Mahloof said at a press conference held at their office today, that the function will be held on Thursday night at carnival area.

Mahloof said that the present government and future leaders of the Maldives should learn a lesson from the events of 7 February. He said that they should be honest, fair, and ensure that citizens and Islam are protected in the country.

“Members of the present government and future leaders of the Maldives should learn a lesson from those events. I urge them to refrain from harming Maldivian citizens, our nation and Islam. We had to face that day because then president Nasheed carried out several illegal activities; because he attempted to destroy our religion,” he said.

Mahloof said that several senior members of the party would attend the special function on Thursday night.
