Minivan News has assured that comments in violation of Islamic principles would not be published: MMC

Maldives Media Council (MMC) has said that Minivan News has removed the comments posted by a commentator using the identity ‘Maai Allah’ that allegedly violated the principles of Islam, and assured that similar incidents would not repeat in the future.

MMC said that the group that filed the case has been informed that the owner of Minivan News, after being questioned regarding this issue, had removed the comments from the website and assured that similar incidents would not repeat in the future. The council said that it thus believes that Minivan News has taken necessary measures to address case filed by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs regarding the publishing of comments that violated principles of Islam.

The comments in question had been removed by the time the Islamic Ministry filed its case in this regard to MMC.

MMC said during its investigation that questions had been raised regarding the editor of Minivan News. Nazim Abdul Sattar of G. Keneryge, who was registered at Information Department as the editor of the online news site, said when summoned and questioned by the council that the paper did not operate under his editorship.

MMC said that the owner of Minivan News had been notified to ensure that the paper’s editorship functions within the laws of the Maldives.
