MVR 15M in pending dues to fishermen to be deposited today

State fisheries company, Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) states they have commenced depositing MVR 15.1 million in pending dues to fishermen on Thursday.

MIFCO’s announcement comes after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Wednesday, revealed that funds have been handed over to the company by the government to disburse payments for all remaining pending dues to fishermen. 

As per statistics shared by MIFCO on Thursday, they will be depositing payment for pending dues incurred from September 27th to Sunday, over the course of today.

The outstanding payments that will remain once these payments are settled were incurred between Monday and Wednesday, accounting for MVR 2.98 million.

President Muizzu, on Wednesday, noted that the government was undertaking efforts to establish a system where fishermen are disbursed payment within 48 hours as pledged.
