Two arrested for stealing MVR 25,000 using elderly woman’s bank card

The police have arrested two individuals believed to have withdrawn MVR 25,000 using a bank card stolen from an elderly woman in GA. Vilingili.

The incident was reported to the police at around 08:13 pm on Wednesday.

Police believe that two young men - Mohamed Shain Shameez, 22, GA. Vilingili, and Hamdoon Khaleel, 24, North Heaven, Thundi, L. Gan – used the stolen card to withdraw MVR 25,000 from a Bank of Maldives (BML) ATM in GA. Maamendhoo.

They were stopped and arrested in an operation at sea on their way back to Vilingili.

Following the arrests, the police searched the speedboat they were travelling on and found MVR 23,000 out of MVR 25,000 they are believed to have withdrawn using the card.

The case is under investigation by the police.
