Universal awards three doctors with scholarships for specialization

Universal Foundation, on Monday, has awarded three doctors scholarships for specialization.

The foundation opened special scholarship opportunities for students who wish to pursue higher education in the field of medicine last year, in memory of the late Dr. Ibrahim Umar Manik.

The fully-funded scholarship slots for this year were awarded to the recipients during a special ceremony held at Universal on Monday. The recipients are:

  • Dr. Fathimath Mishfa Waseem (Otorhinolaryngology )
  • Dr. Nuha Abdul Rahman (Pediatrics)
  • Dr. Aminath Najudha (Surgery)

Universal Foundation has awarded scholarship opportunities for local students since 2014.

The details of scholarships awarded by the Foundation in the past 10 years are as follows:

  • Medicine – 67
  • Accounting and Financing – 4
  • Business Management, HR and Marketing – 19
  • Graphics and Interior Designing – 3
  • Education – 2
  • Engineering – 10
  • Hospitality and Culinary – 9
  • IT – 3
  • Maine Biology – 1
  • Pilot training – 3

To date, the foundation has awarded 121 scholarship opportunities from abroad for local students. 15 students are still completing their studies abroad. According to the Foundation, the majority of the students are pursuing their higher education in the field of medicine.

Meanwhile, there are 20 students presently enrolled in the Foundation’s resort internship program. A total of 130 students have completed this internship program in the past five years.

Universal Foundation in collaboration with various government and other organizations have conducted various aid programs.

 

Some of the programs undertaken in this regard include upgrading four special education classrooms at Imaadhudhin School, conducting workshops in collaboration with National Institute for Education (NIE) to train Special Education Needs (SEN) teachers, conducting heart checkup camps in collaboration with Tiny Hearts, transportation of sick people via Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) and beach cleanup activities.
