MVR 114.4M budget approved for Auditor General’s Office

Parliament, on Monday, has approved MVR 114.4 million as next year’s budget for the Auditor General’s Office.

The budget was passed as decided by the Public Accounts Committee without any further changes.

The Auditor General’s Office’s budget for the coming year needs to be passed ahead of the state budget for that year.

At Monday’s Parliamentary sitting, Public Accounts Committee’s Chairperson, Maamgili MP Qasim Ibrahim presented the budget proposed by the Auditor General’s Office alongside the changes brought by the Committee.

In this regard, the total budget that the Committee approved for the Auditor General’s Office for the coming year is MVR 114,497,312, out of which MVR 80 million was allocated for recurrent expenses.

Public Accounts Committee had approved the budget unanimously.

Only a few MPs took part in the floor debate on the budget.

Notably, MDP’s South Hithadhoo MP Ibrahim Nazil also backed passing the budget as approved by the Public Accounts Committee.

Parliament passed the budget with the unanimous votes of 75 MPs in attendance.
