One-month prison sentence for theft of four red bull cans

Criminal Court has sentenced an individual who stole four cans of red bull from a shop in Male’ to one month in prison.

The suspect has been identified as Mohamed Haneesh Hafeez, Hoadhandu Dhunnikage, Gn. Fuvahmulah.

Haneesh was charged with theft in connection to stealing four red bull cans displayed on the rack of Aafas Mart in Male’ in 2022.

Haneesh refused to comment on the charges which Criminal Court deduced as pleading not guilty. No evidence was submitted in his defense.

As per the documents submitted by the prosecution in the case, the four red bull cans he stole was valued at MVR 160.

Criminal Procedure Act specifies theft of an item valued below MVR 500 as a second-degree crime.

The Court ruled that the charges against Haneesh were proven beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced him to one month and 12 days in prison.

Theft cases remains in prominent in the Maldives with 2,290 such cases reported so far this year.
