Two motorcycles collided in an accident in Hulhumale’ on Saturday, leaving four people injured, including a child.
The police said the accident took place in Hulhumale’ Phase I in the morning.
The four people in the motorcycles were reported to have sustained various degrees of injuries, and were taken to the Hulhumale’ Hospital.
“One of the people injured is a child,” said the police.
The accident is under investigation by the police.
The latest accident comes after a motorcycle crashed into a three-year-old girl on Thursday, as she crossed a road in Male’. She was on a zebra crossing and sustained head injuries in the accident.
And on Friday, a man was caught on video allowing a young boy in school uniform to steer a motorcycle on the Hulhumale’ Highway. The man is under investigation by the police for child endangerment.
The police increased street patrols in the capital last month, following multiple accidents, some of which resulted in fatalities. The police have set up check posts and begun patrolling the Sinamale’ Bridge and Hulhumale’ Highway – hotspots for accidents – on motorcycles.
Statics shared by the police show the measures had been effective in reducing the number of accidents.
