India PM accepts invite to visit Maldives

The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's invitation to make an official visit to the Maldives.

President Muizzu, who is currently on an official visit to India, extended the formal invitation during his meeting with Prime Minister Modi on Monday in New Delhi, India.

Vikram Misry, the Foreign Secretary of the Indian External Affairs Ministry, during a press conference providing details on Muizzu's state visit, confirmed Modi accepted the invitation.

Misry however, did not disclose the date of Modi's trip.

Next year, the Maldives and India will celebrate the 60th anniversary since both countries established diplomatic relations. Muizzu has invited the Indian Prime Minister to visit Maldives to commemorate the occasion.

During their high-level talks on Monday, President Muizzu expressed his administration wishes to work closely with India to enhance cooperation, while highlighting India has been a vital partner to the Maldives in social and economic development.

Muizzu further affirmed Maldives will remain a consistent ally of India.
