Elections Commission (EC) states requests to get removed from a political party must be submitted online starting from Thursday.

The Commission, on Wednesday, said requests to be removed from a political party must be submitted via the Commission’s portal starting from Thursday.

EC amended the regulation on political parties back in September to ease the process of removal from a political party and changing parties.

As per the regulation, if a member of a political party requests to be removed from the respective party, they must be removed from the party’s register of members within 14 days. If their request is not granted within 14 days, the individual can submit to have their name removed from the register of the members of the respective party in accordance with the procedure set down by EC.

The regulation also states individuals applying for posts that bar them from being a member of a political party and individuals who have been registered to a political party without their knowledge that request to get immediately removed from the political party in line with the procedure stipulated by EC, will be granted their request instantly.

This marks the ninth amendment to the regulation on political parties.
