From August 15 to August 28, 2024, I had the distinguished honor of traveling from the Maldives to China to participate in the Seminar on Commercial Circulation System Construction and Development for Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) partner countries. This trip was a transformative experience, providing invaluable insights into the rich tapestry of Chinese history, culture, and innovation.

China, a country known for its remarkable advancements in research and development, technology, and sustainable goals, has showcased a compelling model of development that is both inspiring and instructive for partner nations. My journey allowed me to engage deeply with the Chinese people, who were not only warm and hospitable but also eager to share their knowledge and experiences. The level of infrastructure development in the country is truly unfathomable, with a seamless integration of technology into everyday life, profoundly enhancing the quality of living for its citizens.

The serene countryside, steeped in rich history, stands in stark contrast to the bustling modern cities, offering a glimpse into the harmonious blend of tradition and innovation that defines contemporary China. The seminar itself was a well-organized affair, marked by a warm welcome from the hosts, complemented by a smooth check-in process upon arrival. The accommodation and meals provided during my stay were nothing short of fantastic, adding to the overall experience.

The opening ceremony of the seminar was particularly memorable, as we were personally welcomed by distinguished leaders from the EJCCCSE and AIBO. The presentations and lectures were conducted by esteemed professors and industry experts from leading Chinese institutions, covering a wide array of topics, including the Chinese economy, the BRI inaugurated by President Xi Jinping, and the strategies employed by Chinese leaders in governance and reform.

A significant focus of the seminar was on China’s fresh food quality and safety standards, as well as the country’s commodity circulation and logistics systems. One of the highlights was an engaging exploration of China’s e-commerce platforms, which have revolutionized how business is conducted in the digital age. A visit to the Xinfadi Market provided a firsthand account of its establishment from the owner, offering an inspiring perspective on enterprise and innovation.

Our itinerary also included insightful tours of various enterprises, including the Jimei Company’s businesses and the booming operations of Cainiao (Alibaba) . In Beijing, we were fortunate to visit the illustrious Summer Palace and The Great Wall, where each site narrated an authentic story of Chinese history, showcasing the determination and courage that have shaped this great nation.

An exhilarating experience was our journey on the high-speed train from Beijing to Tai Cang City. This marvel of technology reflected the advancement of China’s transit infrastructure, propelling us swiftly and comfortably to our next destination. In Tai Cang City, I participated in a seminar on the Safety Protection of Electric Vehicles organized by Jiangsu General Protech Co., Ltd. This session provided a wealth of information and facilitated networking with various manufacturers and suppliers in the electric vehicle sector.

Our visit to Kunshan Good Life Household Board Co., Ltd was equally enlightening, as the owner graciously provided us with a detailed tour of their operations and the technological advancements they have achieved. This hands-on experience reinforced our appreciation of China's commitment to innovation and quality in its manufacturing processes. Additionally, the visit to Qiandeng ancient town, rich in history, offered a captivating glimpse into the cultural heritage that complements China's modern achievements.

As I reflect on how to apply the knowledge gained during this enriching experience to my home country of the Maldives, I see several avenues for action. Firstly, adopting China’s model of robust infrastructure planning could greatly benefit our transportation and logistics sectors, facilitating trade and connectivity among the islands. Emphasizing strong food safety standards and developing efficient supply chains can enhance our agricultural production and ensure the well-being of our communities. Moreover, the spirit of innovation and enterprise that I observed can inspire local entrepreneurs in the Maldives.

In summary, my experience in China was nothing short of extraordinary. It is a nation at the forefront of technological advancement, driven by a spirit of cooperation and an unwavering commitment to enhancing global partnerships. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese government for this enriching opportunity. The unique willingness of China to share its resources and knowledge with partner countries is a testament to its vision of collaborative growth and development for a prosperous future. Together, we walk towards advancements that will benefit our nations and our global community.
