Maldives seeks further opportunities in Bangladesh for medical students

Discussions have been held between Maldives and Bangladesh regarding avenues for further opportunities for Maldivian medical students in Bangladesh.

The discussions took place during a meeting between Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) in New York.

During the meeting, President Muizzu between the two nations, particularly through exchange programs. He advocated for increased opportunities for Maldivian students, with special emphasis on internship programs for medical students to gain valuable hands-on experience in Bangladesh.

Both leaders also discussed key areas of cooperation, including people-to-people exchange programs, climate change adaptation, and strengthening ties in the blue economy and maritime transportation.

They concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties and advancing strategic cooperation on issues of shared concern and fostering deeper bilateral relations in the future.

President Muizzu has met with leaders of various nations on the sidelines of his New York trip to attend UNGA79.

He addressed the UN General Assembly for the first time since assuming presidency on Tuesday.
