The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) reports the fisheries factory setup has been fully shifted to Lh. Felivaru from K. Kanduoiygiri, and added the establishment is ready to launch operations.
The government handed Kanduoiygiri to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) for its use on August 4th, following which MIFCO designed to temporarily shift the factory from the island to Felivaru.
MIFCO also added the factory would be temporarily moved to Felivaru until it receives sufficient land for its operations from Hulhumale’.
In response to questions from ‘Sun’, a MIFCO media official said the factory setup has already been shifted to Felivaru, and expects it to become operational this week. The official also added that some heavy machineries are still left at Kanduoiygiri.
They also said MNDF have extended the duration provided to MIFCO to vacate the island, until October 15, 2024.
MIFCO earlier addressed the challenges in the abrupt relocation of its factory and noted it would incur costs for the temporary relocation until the company received permanent land in Hulhumale’.
