MDP offers legal aid for politically-motivated dismissal of gov employees

MDP's leader Abdulla Shahid.

The main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has offered legal assistance to civil servants and employees of government companies who are unlawfully dismissed from their jobs.

In a statement on Tuesday, the MDP accused the government of intimidating and dismissing employees who do not support President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu or his administration.

The party said it had therefore decided to provide assistance to take legal action in cases of politically-motivated dismissals.

MDP asked government employees who are dismissed or penalized for politically-motivated reasons to apply for legal aid by contacting the party at 7341637 or [email protected].

The offer of legal assistance comes after the MDP recently accused the government of going back on its promise of job security for government employees.

The party alleged that hundreds of employees were being dismissed from state-owned companies for political reasons.

It also said that while government employees were being dismissed by claiming the need to cut costs, the government continues to make political appointments at high salaries.
