Fisheries Ministry is set to sell sea cages and young groupers in a new mariculture program in K. Maniyafushi.
In an announcement on Sunday, the Fisheries Ministry said the goal of the program is to provide opportunities for people interested in venturing into the field of marine farming.
Total 57 cage sets are available for MVR 100,000 under the program. According to the ministry, the cages are 72 square meters in size, with eight three-meter by three-meter grids. The cage sets come with the frame, the grids, ropes and anchor.
The ministry said the cages will be given in order based on those who settle payments. Arrangements to transport the cages to Maniyafushi must be made by the purchaser.
Meanwhile, the groupers will be sold based on availability of the fish from the research hatchery in Maniyafushi. Groupers of six to 10 centimeters will be sold for MVR 15 each at first come first served basis.
Interested parties are asked to email the ministry at [email protected].
Those who wish to tour Maniyafushi to view the cages and groupers can arrange a time for a site visit by contacting the ministry at 3322242 or 3339251.
