Three, including Pakistani national, face drug trafficking charges in Maldives

The police have asked the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) for criminal charges against three people – including a Pakistani national - arrested on suspicion of smuggling drugs into the Maldives.

The suspects arrested in the case are:

  • Ahmed Affan, 25, Narugis Villa, HDh. Kumundhoo
  • Shahil Mohamed, 40, V. Sinamale’ 4 03-3
  • Molvi Mohamed Haroon, 49, Pakistan

According to the police, the three suspects had trafficked drugs into the Maldives on a flight that landed at the Velana International Airport (VIA) at 05:10 am on August 24.

The police said that the PGO accepted the case for prosecution on Tuesday, September 17.

The police did not specify the type or quantity of drugs seized in the case.
