JSC appoints Civil Court Judge as new member

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Civil Court judge Farhad Rasheed as the newest member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

President Muizzu appointed under the discretions extended to him under Article 158(d) of the Maldives Constitution and Section 3 Paragraph 4 of the Judicial Service Commission Act (Law No: 10/2008).

Farhad was appointed as the new JSC member during a special ceremony held for it at the President’s Office on Sunday morning. Farhad was sworn into the position by Supreme Court justice Ustad Ali Rasheed Hussain.

While he took official oath of office on Sunday, Farhad was selected was elected to the commission earlier on August 10th with the vote of 91 judges of the Maldives’ judiciary. He was elected as representative of lower courts.

At the election held on Sunday to appoint a new representative for lower courts, held from 10:00hrs until 12:00hrs, all eligible judges out of the 166, with the exception of just three, had cast their votes.

Farhad has been serving as a judge since 2013. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sharia and Law from Maldives College of Islamic Studies.
