Ismail Habeeb Abdul Raheem, the former vice chairperson of the Elections Commission, has been appointed as a member of the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM).
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu presented Habeeb with his letter of appointment in a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Sunday afternoon.
His oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice Ali Rasheed Hussain.
Habeeb for membership at HRCM on July 15. He received the approval of the Parliament with a majority vote of 74-3 on July 31.
Habeeb replaces Dr. Ahmed Adhuham Abdulla resigned from HRCM in October last year.
He had left the EC after 21 years of service on March 13, as the law prevents commissioners from serving more than two consecutive terms.
He holds a Bachelor of Shar'iah and Law from Villa College and a Master of Arts (Dhivehi Language) from the Maldives National University.
