President assures housing for recipients adherent to regulations

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Monday assured that all the recipients will receive housing so long as their names in the list abide by regulations.

He made the affirmation during the meeting with several housing unions held at the President’s Office on Monday.

Members of multiple housing unions that included Fahi Union, Giraavaru Male’ Citizen’s Association, Hulhumale’ Rayyithunge Committee, and Male’ Ravvehinge Jamiyyaa met with the Maldives head of state.

During the meeting, representatives of these housing unions had expressed concerns regarding the housing situation in Male’ region. Chief among these issues included the delays in handing over land registrations for issued land plots in social housing initiatives.

These unions highlighted the need to expedite the issuance of assurance letters to residents of Male’ region, and also emphasized the need to improve accountability of relevant authorities.

Responding to these concerns, President Dr. Muizzu ensuring housing is one of the top priorities of the current administration.

He assured that “all recipients of housing who have had their names listed in the gazette would receive housing in accordance with his pledge, provided it abides by the regulations.”

President Muizzu further elaborated the ongoing efforts to provide housing opportunities. He assured the unions that the difficulties currently faced with regards to housing will be resolved, and promised the government authorities would explore avenues to ease difficulties faced by the public.

The Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development on Monday said 23 of the plots under the Binveriya Scheme – launched during the previous regime – have been handed over to its recipients, with a total of 648 plots handed over to their owners.

A total of 1,408 plots were issued under the first phase of the Binveriya Scheme, with handover of 761 plots still pending.

Recipients of both Binveriya and Gedhoruveriya schemes had recently protested regarding the notable delays faced in the handover of the plots and housing flats they have been awarded.
