The Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar on Saturday said educated personnel are crucial for enhanced urban development.

The minister has encouraged youths to attain education from related fields to ensure improvement in urbanization and development initiatives.

Minister Shareef made these remarks while speaking at the Annual Prize Day of Villa International High School (VIHS) on Saturday evening.

At the ceremony, the minister emphasized seeking education in highly in-demand, crucial and prospective fields.

He noted the importance of seeking education in such fields, including the local government system and noted the need for educated, capable, and technical employees in the sector. Shareef added that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's administration will establish urban regions and centers across the Maldives and underscored these efforts will require academic and technical employees.

In the minister's statements, he stressed congestion as a primary catalyst for various social issues and noted that seeking education in urban development fields would ensure employment scope for individuals without migrating to the capital city for career prospectives.

Establishment of seven mid-scale urban centers across the Maldives is an important pledge of Dr. Muizzu's administration. The centers will be developed in three areas north of Male' and four in southern areas.

The current administration envisions establishing urban regions and centers in key areas of the Maldives and populated these areas with a minimum of 100,000 people within a one-year span.
