FM Zameer meets Saudi counterpart, hands over letter from President

Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer, on Sunday, has met with Saudi Arabian counterpart, Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud.

The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh as part of Minister Zameer’s ongoing official visit to the nation.

During the meeting, Minister Zameer delivered a letter from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Both ministers also held discussions during the meeting which included reflecting on the close ties of friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia – rooted in the common Islamic heritage, shared values and principles.

They also centered around strengthening the existing bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as opportunities for increased multilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The ministers also discussed the holding of the first round of bilateral political consultations between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia, at a mutually convenient time.

Minister Zameer also extended gratitude to Saudi Arabian government for the long-standing support for the Maldives while expressing hope his ongoing visit to pave the way for increased bilateral engagements.

The Minister was accompanied by Ambassador-at-Large Ahmed Naseer, Joint Secretary Badoora Saeed, Director General Aishath Fareena and Chargé d'affaires at the Embassy of the Maldives in Saudi Arabia Ahmed Fazeel.

Minister Zameer will conclude the visit on Thursday, August 22nd. 

Notably, this year marks the 43rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and Saudi Arabia.
