Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) purchased 56 tons of fish on Wednesday, as fishing improves in central Maldives.

MIFCO said that fishing has improved in central regions, especially in M. Atoll. This has prompted the company to deploy more of its vessels to the Male’ area and M. Atoll.

The company also expects fishing to improve soon in northern and southern regions of the country.

MIFCO purchased 56 tons of fish on Wednesday, including 25 tons from boats that docked at the Addu Fisheries Complex.

The company said that it is a good figure, considering the recent lull.

MIFCO said it purchased between 20-30 tons over the last couple of days.

MIFCO is currently purchasing fish at the rate of MVR 16 per kilo.

The signs of improvement in fishing comes after a significant decline in recent weeks, leading to a severe shortage of fish in the market.
