Expat arrested with 48 beer cans slapped with 15-day remand

The expatriate arrested from Hulhumale’ with dozens of beer cans has been remanded in custody of the police for 15 days.

Sohidul Islam, 33, a citizen of Bangladesh, was arrested from outside the Amin Avenue apartment complex in Hulhumale’ Phase I at around 10:00 pm on Sunday.

 According to the police, he was arrested with 48 cans of beer and one bottle of liquor.

A police spokesperson said on Tuesday that the court ordered for Islam to be remanded in custody of the police for 15 days.

“This case is under investigation by the police,” added the spokesperson.

Also on Tuesday, the police announced three arrests from V. Bodu Mohora, an island under development as a tourist resort. The suspects – two Maldivians and a Sri Lankan – were arrested with 24 bottles of liquor.
