3 arrested from Bodumohoraa with 24 liquor bottles

Authorities have arrested three individuals with 24 liquor bottles in Vaavu atoll Bodumohoraa.

Maldives Police Service shared a message with local media, confirming the three were arrested in possession of liquor bottles from a joint operation by Police Drug Enforcement and Intelligence departments.

Authorities arrested two local men and a foreigner in the case. They have been identified as:

  • Ahmed Ashraf, M. Lux Garden, Male' (43 years)
  • Amjad Mohamed, Blue Heaven, GDh. Thinadhoo (50 years)
  • Nalin Indika Kodikara, Sri Lanka (53 years)

With all 24 liquor bottles now confiscated, police added they are now investigating the case.

Bodumohoraa has been leased by the government for tourist resort development.

There has been a sharp increase in the number of drug- and liquor-related arrests in the Maldives recently.

Local authorities have also begun publicly releasing the identities of suspects arrested in such cases in a bid to curtail such criminal offenses.
