Fenaka Corporation has decided to install solar panels on all islands where the company provides services.
The project is part of Fenaka’s in-house solar program. Under this project, solar panels will be installed on the roofs of Fenaka’s powerhouses and office buildings.
Fenaka, in a statement, said 5.2 megawatts of solar panels will be installed under the project in total, which is valued at MVR 92 million.
As per the company, this project would pave the way to save 2.6 liters of diesel per year, henceforth, saving MVR 19.9 million per year.
Grid tiles solar panels of 18 to 30 kilowatts will be installed at the powerhouses and the office buildings under the project. The company forecasts to formulate the project and implement it early next year.
Fenaka, as it seeks to implement this renewable energy project, has achieved success in energy production via renewable services.
In this regard, the company has already commenced the ‘Poised Project’, a joint initiative with the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy through an Asian Development Bank (ADB) grant, with the primary objective of reducing fuel dependency by introducing solar-diesel hybrid power output systems.
Fenaka has also installed 191 kilowatts of solar panels at its powerhouses and office buildings across eight islands in the past two years. In addition to this, 14 megawatts of solar panels have been installed at islands serviced by Fenaka under other projects, which are already in use.
Fenaka states the project will further boost the government’s efforts to increase energy production via renewable sources.
At the same time, the company said it would pave the way for tangible improvements in the country’s energy sector, lead to environmentally friendly production of generation electricity, and further impetus towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
