BML reverts erroneously credit money

Bank of Maldives' mobile banking application displayed on a phone.

Bank of Maldives (BML) has confirmed it reversed erroneously crediting money to several bank accounts on Thursday.

The bank clarified that this was due to a human error during payment processing.

BML said it identified the accounts to which money was credited erroneously.

"There has been no financial loss due to this isolated incident," the bank said in a social media statement, adding that the issue occurred with a "recent change in bulk payments" used for payroll processing.

The bank apologized to its customers for the inconvenience but assured them that the bank's systems are safe and secure.

BML's digital banking suites—mobile and internet banking features—were out of commission from Thursday afternoon until early evening.

Services resumed properly around dusk.
