One hospitalized in horrific crash outside Vinares apartments in Hulhumale’

A speeding car veered out of control and crashed into a motorcycle in a horrific accident in Hulhumale’ Phase II on Wednesday, leaving the man on the motorcycle hospitalized with injuries.

According to the police, the accident took place in the afternoon near the Vinares apartments.

“A male driving the motorcycle involved in the accident was injured and taken to the Hulhumale’ Hospital,” said a police spokesperson.

He was later transferred to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), where he is being treated at the hospital’s Emergency Room.

The police did not comment on the extent of the injuries.

A CCTV camera in the area captured the accident.

In the video, which has since gone viral on social media, a man driving a motorcycle is seen stopping on the side of the road to pick up his phone.

Less than a second later, a red and black sports car is seen turning into the road at high speed. It hits the grassy road divider on the road, spins out of control and hits the man on the motorcycle. The car also takes down a tree on the side of the road before veering to a stop on the pavement. The force of the impact sends the man spinning in the air. His head hits the car before he crashes to the ground.

The police said in a later statement that the person driving the car and fled the scene.

The police are currently looking for him.

An earlier video of the aftermath of the accident showed the car with extensive damage to the front fender, wind screen and as well as the trunk of the vehicle. It does not show the motorcycle involved in the crash.
