Two less-lethal guns brought in for police trainings have been stopped by Customs.
Reports have been going around in social media that the two weapons that came via post were pistols, but Customs Superintendent Ahmed Niyaz told Sun Online today that the Lethal Launcher (paintball) guns are the kind of guns used in movies and games, and that they pose no threat.
“This is not a pistol. This is a paintball gun. It doesn’t have bullets. The magazine has paintballs. It shoots out paint,” he said.
He said that Customs stopped the items to check if the necessary permits from MNDF had been obtained, and that efforts are under way to hand over the items to the police.
The Police Act allows police to use less lethal and non-less-lethal weapons.
